What To Look For In A Distance Learning College

As the Internet becomes as common in many homes as bathrooms, sinks and stoves, the opportunity to turn any location into a learning one is becoming more evident. More and more colleges and universities are allowing those jacked in to the Net to turn their home computers into powerful learning tools by offering distance learning college courses.

These classes sometimes translate into full degrees, or they add to ones students are seeking in person. Either way, when a distance learning college program is involved, making the right choices can be as difficult as screening colleges for personal attendance.

Unless the course are offered by a college a student is already attending, there are some considerations that should be made before course fees are turned over. These include:

* Programs offered. While the idea of attending a distance learning college in the privacy of one’s own home can be very alluring, if the right programs for personal advancement and interest are not available, there’s little point.

Make sure any distance college seriously considered has the type of course work that really benefits personal career choice, or at least learning interest. Novelty aside, these programs are still hard, so why invest when the end result might be coursework that just doesn’t fit personal needs.

* Accreditation. This is a big thing to consider. Make sure the colleges considered are accredited and that their online programs are, too. If a college says its accredited with a particular agency, check it out before signing on. Some of the bigger schools, such as state universities and well known private colleges, likely don’t require this consideration, but do check and see if their online degree programs are extended accreditation, as well. This can mean the difference between a very valuable degree or just a piece of paper.

* Class schedule. Pay very close attention to this even with online learning. Some courses might require students to be online at appointed times for virtual lectures. If work schedule doesn’t permit this, signing up for a class can be a costly mistake.

* Pricing. Check into pricing and scholarship/loan opportunities. There’s no point signing on for a $10,000 program if it cannot be paid for. Most accredited institutions offer help with student financial aid, even for distance learning programs.

* Staff availability. While students who choose to learn online tend to do so to avoid the classroom setting, access to professors will still likely be very important. Make sure this is available. Even if it’s through online chat or telephone calls, being able to “talk” to a professor should never be cut out of the distance learning equation.

A distance learning college can really open doors for those who cannot attend classes for whatever reasons. There are some things that should be looked into very closely before signing on and paying for one of these programs, however. If the roadblocks to learning aren’t actually removed, the program being looked at might not be the best one for personal needs.

Writing The Sat As An Intel

If you’re an international college applicant, you are probably unfamiliar with the format of the SAT exam.

The SAT is normally required for all applicants at most schools. Internationals are required to write the SAT as well as Americans. However, colleges do understand that international students may not be familiar with the SAT (with the exception of internationals studying in American schools abroad) and thus may not do as well as their American counterparts. This is especially true for applicants whose native language is not English.

Do colleges give some leniency to international students with regard to the SAT? The answer depends on which college is in question. Some colleges may have a policy whereby if an international applicant scores 2000 or higher, then SATs are out of the way. Many others have no clear policies though. At highly selective institutions, the difference in weightage for Americans and internationals may be small.

In my opinion, even as an international, you should strive to do as well as you can on the SAT. There’re many books that are dedicated to SAT preparation on the market; just browse the shelves of any well-stocked bookstore. College Board itself has produced several excellent preparation materials that you should use as your preparation materials. If you can afford it, you can even join one of the many prep courses available.

Why is it important? First of all, international students with high critical reading scores have considerable advantages (hook) over other international applicants. As there will be many internationals who willl probably not have scores in the high 700s in the critical reading section, scoring well earns you some advantage over the others. It shows your willingness to learn something totally new to you.

Besides, some universities such as Northwestern and Virginia will waive the TOEFL requirement if your criticial reading score is above a certain threshold, as an acknowledgment of your English proficiency. Therefore, doing well on the SAT can only work in your favor.

Community College Advantages

If you happen to be fortunate enough to live in a community that has a community college you should really make the time in your schedule to check and see what kind of classes they can offer that can help you advance your education and your career. You might be amazed at the different types of courses you can take even on the community college level. I know that I have found some of the courses that are offered and the degree of learning that takes place to be quite impressive. I think that many people who have in the past disregarded the important role that community colleges play in providing an affordable venue for learning will be quite amazed as well.

Community colleges have an undeserved reputation for inferiority when this could not be further from the truth. A good many of the nations nurses are products of community college educations. In many states, the associates degree nursing programs are quite rigorous and provide more clinical experience than most bachelor’s degree nursing programs. This means that students graduating nursing school with an associates degree in nursing are often better prepared to deal with patient care than those who have the ’superior degree’. This by no means is meant to disparage B. S. Nursing students at all. In fact, most hospitals will not even consider you a candidate for an administrative nursing position unless you have the Bachelor’s degree. This is only meant to point out that associates degree programs can be quite competitive and inclusive despite common misconceptions.

Of course there are other benefits to learning on the community college level, at least for the first two years of your education. One of those benefits that speaks volumes to me is the fact that teachers in community colleges are dedicated to teaching. They are not working on their own research or books. They are there for the purpose of helping you achieve your goals, which means you aren’t an interruption in their pursuit of their own goals.

Community colleges also offer an excellent buffer for students who may not have been on top of their game academically in high school or those who are returning to college after a long absence from academia. You won’t find the large auditorium classes on the community college level that major universities are famous for offering. You also won’t find that teachers do not have time for their students. There is a lower teacher to student ratio in community colleges so that professors will have time to address the needs of students.

Another benefit is that even if you do not go on to get your four year degree after completing your community college education you will find that your earning potential is significantly improved over those who do not have at least a two-year college education. Research also indicates that students who complete a two-year degree program at a community college are more likely to finish and get a four-year degree than those students who begin their educational experience at a four-year university.

There are a few problems that can be associated with a community college education and you should take note of these so that they do not become a problem for you. First of all, some universities do not accept many of the courses that are offered on the community college level as transfer credits. Make sure that you know what courses are required for the university that you are planning to transfer to in order to avoid this. You also may find that you are limited on the courses you can take and the times in which they will be available. Make sure that you have all the limited courses well ahead of time so that you aren’t taking another year of classes in order to graduate.

All in all, a community college education can be just as enlightening as a university education if you enter into the process with an open mind and a willingness to learn. I hope you take advantage of this much less expensive option before moving on to university courses if possible.

How To Get An Education Online

In order to go to college one must be able to overcome the obstacles of money and time. Money issues can be addressed through student loans, scholarships or grants. But dealing with the time issue can be more difficult, especially if a student has to work a lot of overtime on their job. Of course students who have jobs requiring no overtime might have more luck with their school scheduling, as long as they don’t have young children. If they do they will not be able to take classes at night, since most daycares are not open late hours. For either situation the option is taking weekend classes, (which get full very quickly), switching to different hours on the job or getting their education online. This article will discuss the alternative that offers the most flexibility: getting an education online.

When you get an education online, you have access to a virtual classroom 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. You can log in any time you want. If you want your classroom session to commence at 3 o’clock in the morning you are free to do so. However, don’t expect the academic challenge to be any less than if you went to a ‘regular’ college. You will still have assignments that will have deadlines, and you will still need to study for your exams. In fact, many students think getting an education online might be harder than learning in a traditional classroom, because the learning process is more independent. Lectures are usually just posts on the message boards of your virtual classroom. If you need help you can e-mail, IM or call your professor, but you have to make sure you reach them at the right times. At least in a classroom they are right there, ready to answer your questions once you raise your hand. So, for this reason, when getting an education online, expect that you’ll have to rely more on your own reading, deduction and studying skills to thoroughly learn the material.

To start getting an education online, it is best to search the Internet for online college finders. These are websites which are affiliated with various online colleges. Once you enter in your information, (which usually consists of your name, address, email, phone number and major), you will be returned a list of colleges the website thinks are best for you. More extensive online college finders, (such as Peterson’s), will return more specific data about your recommended colleges. Regardless, once you choose the college you would like to get an online education with, you will get a call or an e-mail from their representative. If after talking with the representative you are impressed with the school, you will get an application packet to get the enrollment process started.

In conclusion, getting an education online is an excellent solution if you are otherwise pressed for time when it comes to traditional colleges. Academically things will not be easier if you decide to get an education online, but in terms of scheduling, it will be much more convenient.

Learning On The Net: Online College Classes

If you are like most men and women, your daily schedule is hectic and completely filled. With that said, you may nonetheless be interested in advancing your education. However, because of you commitments, you simply may not have the time to attend traditional college classes in a brick and mortar world institution. If that is the case, you should take a close look at online college classes. Online college classes may be the perfect solution for you.

When it comes to online college classes, you have a number different options to chose from in this day and age. Indeed, each and every week, there are fresh alternatives on the Net for people interested in enrolling in online college classes.

Many traditional colleges and universities that have been long established in the brick and mortar world have developed online course programs. Presently, the vast majority of traditional institutions of higher learning now allow students to access their educational courses through online college classes. These schools have established very substantial distant learning programs through the Internet and World Wide Web.

A good number of people interested in advancing their education are inclined to obtain degrees from these well established institutions of higher learning. As has been noted before, however, busy schedules and day to day commitments render it impossible for a good number of people to actually enroll in and attend classes at these various colleges and universities.

Through the distant learning programs and online college classes created by these institutions of higher learning, men and women from all walks of life and literally from all corners of the globe can now enroll in and participate in courses of education, including diploma programs, on the Net.

In addition to distant learning programs being established on the Net by traditional brick and mortar world colleges and universities, there are now schools that have been established wholly in cyberspace. These cyber schools offer an ever growing slate of online college classes for people across the globe.

Beyond being remarkably convenient, these Internet based schools are also reasonably priced. When it comes to continuing education, a person oftentimes is prevented from moving forward in the brick and mortar world due to the high costs of tuition. Tuition costs at colleges and universities (both public and private) continues to increase significantly each and every year. Through online college classes offered by schools that exist only in cyberspace a person interested in advancing his or her education can save a great deal of money on tuition.

As an aside, diplomas and certificates from these cyber-based schools are gaining wider acceptance and appreciation. There is a growing understanding that online college classes provided by these types of schools can be rigorous and substantial. The educational programs offered by these Internet institutions are not akin to the diploma mills that offer degrees for dollars without any significant course work being required.

In the final analysis, if you are interested in advancing your education even while dealing with a full plate of responsibilities, online college classes may be exactly the learning ticket for you. Your options abound on the Internet.

Why Choose Distance Learning?

The great technology of the World Wide Web has totally changed the way our world works, especially in regards to institutions of higher education. Colleges and universities all over the country—and the world—are offering degrees and certificates to students many miles away. These distance learning programs are excellent for individuals who want to continue their education, but do not have the time to physically attend classes. Instead of returning to the classroom, let the classroom come to you!

Whether you are looking for your associate’s, bachelors, master’s, or doctorate degree, there is a program in cyberspace waiting for you! Additionally, there are a phenomenal number of certificate programs available that will provide you with the necessary materials and education needed to fulfill your goal.

If you are looking to advance your education, but are simply unable to dedicate the necessary time to attend classes, then distance learning may be for you! Since the courses are online, you can attend any time of the day or night—whatever fits into your schedule. Consider finishing coursework on your lunch break or after you put the kids to bed. Work on the weekends and still complete your degree on time.

Many individuals are interested in a particular program that is not available at their local college or university. Since the World Wide Web makes any place on earth easily reachable by a mere click of the mouse, you can enroll in a program that meets you every expectation, although the physical campus may be thousands of miles away. Contact your professors via e-mail or postings and virtually meet your classmates by using programs such as Instant Messenger.

For individuals looking to switch employment fields, a degree or certificate in your field of choice may be the boost you need to land that perfect job! By working towards your educational goal through a distance learning program, you do not have to take time off work and waiver from your current obligations.

Just like traditional campus programs, colleges and universities offer tuition assistance for their online courses. From scholarships to grants, there are a multitude of programs available that will help you when the bill comes due. Also, many companies and jobs offer tuition assistance and will cover all or a percentage of the total costs of distance education. Ask at your place of employment to see if this great option is available through your company.

There is a great misconception that accompanies distance learning and education. Many individuals believe the degrees or certificates earned are not worth as much as the same degrees earned in a traditional college or university setting. This is a common myth that can easily be rebuffed—with a word of warning. Just as traditional colleges and universities may not be accredited; there are certain distance learning programs that are not legitimate.

When searching for a distance learning program, use a clear mind and be alerted to any flags that may denote a scam. Look for programs sponsored by accredited colleges or universities and be sure to ask forthright if the degree or certificate will be legitimate. Most programs are quite legitimate and will provide you with a fantastic education.

Encourage The Path To Genius With Arizona Home Equity Loans

With the quality of education rapidly declining, there are very few universities that still offer excellent instruction. Short of sending your child to an Ivy League university, the next best thing would be the fine colleges and universities of the state of Arizona. As if it’s not bad enough that your child has to leave for college, it’s even made worse by the fact that he or she has to go all the way across the country for it.

It might be time for a change. After all, wouldn’t you like to be close enough to make sure that your child is making the most out of the education you worked so hard to provide? And considering the vagabond behavior of college teens nowadays, it wouldn’t hurt to keep a close eye on your child. Arizona home equity loans can make that possible for you.

Why Arizona?

The high quality of education provided by the universities and community colleges in Arizona are due in part to the Arizona Board of Regents or ABOR. The ABOR is the governing body of higher education in the state. It is headed by the state Governor himself and includes 8 other volunteer members. The ABOR has been responsible in making the universities and community colleges of the state among the best in the country.

With such a well structured educational system, your child is well on his or her way to a bright future. Arizona home equity loans can make sure that you’re with your child every step of the way. With the proximity to the universities and colleges that Arizona home equity loans affords you, you can give your unwavering support and guidance to your child just as if he or she has never left home at all.

Parents Watch

Of course, you remember how it was in college – the wild parties, drugs, and alcohol. Though you know that your child has more than enough sense not to neglect his or her education in pursuit of fun, you would rather be close by to make sure. After all, the heady feeling of newfound freedom and the recklessness of youth is not a very good combination.

Arizona home equity loans allows you to be a part of your child’s college life. You may not be in the actual dormitory yourself, but at least you will be close enough to know if something is amiss. With the location that Arizona home equity loans give you, you can closely monitor your child’s performance in class. You can also be privy to the comings and goings and the people consorting with your child.

A Parent’s Legacy

With your child getting the best education there is and safely on the way to a successful career, you can rest easy knowing that you’ve done your part in making it all happen. After all, education is the only real gift that a parent can give to a child. It’s a gift that lasts forever. In fact, it’s more than a gift. It’s a legacy.
